Kenya kenaf pilot project
Starting date: August 2009.
Researchers believe that Kenaf origin is Kenya highlands. But there is no evidence for kenaf growing on commercial scale in the modern era.
For that reason we started to run kenaf pilot project in 2 places together with 2 big companies that are working in flower production.
After planting 4 hectares with 10 different kenaf varieties we learned that although kenaf behavior under Kenya’s specific conditions is not similar to that of temperate zones the production of biomass is good enough for commercial production of insulation mats & other eco-friendly products.

In 2010 a larger area will be planted in the area of Maji Mazuri for a semi-commercial project (100-200 hectares).
